Outside my February window waters stir and rise. From depths unfathomed under frozen sod, they climb. Impassioned impulse joins atom to atom, droplet to droplet, through rootlet, trunk, then branch and twig. Up and up! Through the ghostly living tissue of ancient maple courses the sweet fluid, then drip, drip to earth's surface. Spring rises with the flood.

Blood of Trees
Outside my February window waters stir and rise. From depths unfathomed under frozen sod, they climb. Impassioned impulse joins atom to atom, droplet to droplet, through rootlet, trunk, then branch and twig. Up and up!
